Isaiah is clear about the problem. He wrote:
My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways. Isaiah 55:8
This is man’s fundamental problem. Both his thoughts and ways are distorted. Since Adam’s fall, man has turned away from God’s to his own ways and thoughts. This false turn has brought nothing but sorrow, trouble, and death to the world. And the more man attempts to solve these problems –by his thoughts and ways–the more he fouls things up. So, what is one to do?
The answer is to turn back to God’s thoughts and ways. That begins only when one trusts Jesus Christ as His Savior and receives the Spirit Who enables him to understand and apply Scripture to his thoughts and ways. For here, I will simply say that it involves repentance which consists of a change in our thinking and in our ways of living—the two antitheses to the problem.
