We had a few nice, warm February days down here in South Carolina, while much of the nation was frozen in ice and snow. But now, again, the weather has moderated, with sunny days in the 50s and nites in the 30s. Really tough! I know, I know—you love the snow, with all of its acivities. Well, more power to you! God has all sorts of people, with all sorts of preferences about such matters. You may be of Apollos but, frankly, “I am of Paul!”

“What do you mean by that?”

Just this: the great, German biblical scholar Adolph Deissman, in a landmark book about the apostle, noted that Paul never preached in any area in which olive trees didn’t grow. I’m all for an olive-grove ministry!

All seriousness aside, I’ve noticed how much difference weather makes in my life now that I have become an octogenarian. I’ve also enjoyed the snow and the crisp fresh air of the North in past times. I’ve even enjoyed being “snowed in” (once, for several days, together with my mother-in-law who was visiting us). But now, in my sunshine years, I prefer the warmth. Isn’t it wonderful how God arranges things in our lives—including the weather?

Looking out the window, it appears, from the looks of the clouds, that it might rain tonight. They’re getting pretty dark. That means to the likes of me, stay inside unless absolutely necessary to go out—listen to the rain on the roof, and be thankful for the shelter of your home! I’ll probably do some reading in books that, because they were too high on the shelves, I haven’t read for some time. I used to be able to reach them when we built the study bookshelves, but no longer—I’m too unsteady on my feet for a stepstool. So, I’ve managed to remove a pacel of them from the house, trimming my library down to the cream, which I intend to cling to until death do us part!

“Rambling again, Adams?”

Yep. And enjoying it! Surely, a blog is a place where I can do so without being reprimanded. Right? Well, if you disagree, so be it. I’ll ramble anyway, and the great part is that you don’t have to read further. In fact, just so you won’t feel obligated to finish reading this blog because you started it, I’ll . . . .
