We read that Apollos was an eloquent and powerful expounder of the Scriptures who in public debate refuted the Jews at Ephesus, by proving that Jesus was the Messiah (Acts 18:24-28). Clearly, he is commended by this description.
Some disdain eloquence; perhaps sometimes (MOST OF THE TIME?) out of jealousy. God’s Word doesn’t.
When eloquence is the sum and substance of what one has to offer, that’s a tragedy. But when it is connected with powerful exposition of the Bible—well, it might as well be brought out into public debate to refute those who oppose.
So, should you strive for eloquence, preacher?
Not until you have become a POWERFUL EXPOSITOR of the Scriptures!
When you truly know the truth, it isn’t wrong to set it forth in the most winsome manner possible. Let’s not phoo phoo eloquence in that case.
