Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (MABTS) and The College at Mid-America (CAMA) today announced that Dr. John Babler will become Chairman of its Biblical Counseling Department, effective August 1, 2020.

Dr. Babler is an internationally recognized authority in the area of Biblical Counseling and currently serves as Professor of Counseling, Director of the Walsh Counseling Center and also holds the Warren C. Hultgren Chair of Ministerial Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“I am excited to have Dr. John Babler joining the Mid-America team as a member of our faculty and chairman of our Biblical Counseling Department,” said Dr. Lee Brand, Dean of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. “His incredible knowledge and his efforts as a champion of biblical counseling will help us tremendously in becoming the premier biblical counseling program in the U.S.”

In 2015 Mid-America signaled its desire to become the premier biblical counseling school in the world when it partnered with Dr. Jay E. Adams, founder of today’s nouthetic (biblical) counseling movement, to form one of the world’s most comprehensive and accessible education programs for biblical counseling, and to bring back into print all of Dr. Adams’ books.

With the arrival of Dr. Babler, arguably one of the foremost authorities on biblical counseling along with Dr. Jay Adams, Mid-America is ready to equip the next generation of biblical counselors to faithfully serve the Body of Christ.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to join the faculty of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. I look forward to helping train students how to effectively minister God’s Word through both formal and informal counseling,” Babler said.

Dr. Babler will be a full professor of Biblical Counseling and the Chairman of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary’s Biblical Counseling Department.
